30 years of DIMOS: reason to celebrate!
Future-proof potential in the AGV and airport sector
DIMOS, the renowned mechanical engineering company from Petersberg, is celebrating its anniversary: the company was founded in 1993 by Hanna and Alfred Schütz and Dieter Modrey. Since its beginnings in a garage, where it initially carried out assembly work and provided services, DIMOS has now covered an impressive 30-year journey. This includes a number of milestones that have shaped the company and its vision for the future to this day. On September 23, the machine manufacturer celebrated its 30th anniversary in style with its staff and closest partners.
Hanna and Alfred Schütz and Dieter Modrey founded DIMOS in 1993. The history of the mechanical engineering company began in a garage, where the founders initially carried out assembly work and provided other services. After just over four weeks, the company received an order to build its first machine. Demand grew and DIMOS established itself more and more as a manufacturer. This made it necessary to expand the premises: After initially renting a hall in Fulda-Kohlhaus, DIMOS moved to new premises in the Fulda-Petersberg district in 2008. A second production hall was added in 2021: the expanded capacities and the infrastructural orientation of the hall offer DIMOS the opportunity to produce more effectively in the AGV and heavy-duty sector and to position itself more strongly in these areas. Today, the manufacturer of industrial trucks and special vehicles produces small series and niche solutions for the whole world on an area of 7,000 m². In addition to driverless vehicles, this also includes special transport systems and heavy-duty models for internal use. The machine manufacturer is also active as a system supplier for intralogistics and air freight systems.
Formative milestones
Over the past 30 years, DIMOS has continuously expanded its market presence and acquired numerous dealers and partner companies. The product portfolio has expanded continuously over time: since the mid-1990s, the manufacturer has offered the electric multidirectional sideloader as its core product. In 2000, DIMOS put down roots in the airport sector with the introduction of the Pallet Mover. Four years later, the first patented X-Way Mover followed. In 2016, DIMOS took off with AGVs and driverless transport vehicles in semi- and fully automated versions. Despite the negative market influences caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the machine manufacturer has seen enormous growth in recent years. By closely observing a wide range of markets and making strategic decisions in product development, DIMOS has opened up new business areas that have contributed significantly to its sustainable growth. In 2022, the company founded an independent subsidiary in Dubai. The manufacturer now employs a total of 105 people. Another milestone in the company's history is the change in managing directors at the beginning of this year, when the sibling duo Michelle Bohl and Pascal Schütz took over from their parents Hanna and Alfred Schütz. "Our aim is to combine the proven experience of our parents with new ideas and visions and to continue the successful tradition that began 30 years ago with the same passion and values passed on to us," reports Michelle Bohl, Managing Director at DIMOS.
Key milestonesAn outlook for the future
DIMOS sees strong growth potential in the AGV and airport sectors in particular. "We will also continue to develop our existing portfolio at product level and strengthen our electrification," says Pascal Schütz, Managing Director at DIMOS. In order to position the company broadly for the future, the machine manufacturer is intensifying existing collaborations with its partner companies and establishing new connections at the same time. To celebrate the day, DIMOS held a big anniversary party with the workforce and its closest partners in the company's own production hall - and therefore at the heart of DIMOS. "Some of our employees have been part of our team from the very beginning and have experienced the entire development of DIMOS at first hand. This long-standing commitment and their loyalty to the company should be duly recognized at the celebration. We expressed our thanks to the entire workforce," said the two managing directors Michelle Bohl and Pascal Schütz.
